new recipe

me and my sister nana invented a new recipe yesterday. ok, not exactly new, and it was nana who thought of it. what inspired her? desperate hunger, and limited resources. it was about five in the evening, she was really hungry and was in the mood for fried rice. and she specifically wanted one cooked with perencah. i was hungry too, so i volunteered to help her cook. we rummaged the kitchen drawers as well as the fridge to look for ingredients. rice? check. mixed veggies? check. chicken? frozen. too long to wait for it to thaw out. skip. perencah? uh oh, don't have. only the bee hoon one left. it was then the idea struck her. "ahh!! just use the perencah bee hoon lah! hungry bah." so ok, we prepared the ingredients, the rice, mixed veggies and perencah bee hoon. she really wanted chicken, so i suggested using the chicken salami slices. you know, the ones usually eaten with sandwiches? haha...then our amah saw what were doing, and then showed us that she did prepare some chicken wings to cook for dinner. all thawed out. perfect! so we used that too. so, to recap, these are the ingredients:

rice (just enough for four persons)
3 chicken wings (cut up into small pieces)
2 pieces of chicken salami (also cut into small pieces)
mixed veggies (we used just less than half of the packet)
two packets worth of perencah bee hoon
two eggs

yum. so nana did most of the cooking, and i was just the little helper. i had important tasks like passing the ingredients to her while she's cooking. mm hmm, yes, i did that. anyway, after she finished cooking, we called our brother and little sister to come and eat. nana thought it was a bit tawar. she then added ketchup and chilli sauce in her rice. i was ok with mine. so there we were, the three of us, eating in the dining room (the little one ate in the living room so she can watch disney playhouse). eating with my siblings, you can be sure it won't be a quiet affair. nana and ben are always arguing, and i happily become the batu api. but of course, the arguments are nothing more than just playful banters. we don't exactly throw plates or knives at each other. we were raised well :)
